Insulin Resistance

Even though the majority of people suffering from type 2 diabetes are familiar with the words "insulin resistance", a good number of them do not really understand the meaning of these words. Insulin resistance is about one's body not being able to absorb sugar from the bloodstream as it should, and this is something that happens to those who suffer from type 2 diabetes. One has understand what insulin resistance is to be in a position to control it and type 2 diabetes.

All our body cells have insulin receptors which can get destroyed if we keep taking larger quantities of sugar than our bloodstreams can handle. This leads to the insulin receptors not being able to respond well to the insulin contained in their bloodstreams. Due to the resistance of insulin that normally happens to people with type 2 diabetes, they tend to produce more insulin. The more insulin produced, the more the receptors tend to become resistant to it which leading to a negative cycle.

Patients gain weight and not have energy due to insulin resistance and this is among the reasons why people suffering from type 2 diabetes have a big problem when it comes to losing weight. It's not easy losing weight with a body that has excess fats and has no enough energy to exercise.

Currently, type 2 diabetes is controlled by using medications that are meant to lower levels of blood sugar of a patient. Some of them make the pancreas produce extra insulin to reduce the level of blood sugar, however this results in increased insulin resistance and a negative response cycle. This can destroy the pancreas as well.
